Celebrant vs Registrar

Celebrant led weddings are becoming more and more popular and its easy to see why! The celebrants we’ve had recently at our wedding fayres have said that there a still people who don’t know about what they do and how fantastic an option this is, so I thought this would be the perfect subject for the first Hampshire Wedding Network blog post!

Below are some recommendations for my favourite celebrants who are all different and all fantastic, no paid ad’s here - they’re just genuinely all lovely!

Individuality

Like snowflakes, no two couples are the same so why would you want your ceremony to be the same? What would suit one couple and would be their perfect ceremony, would be someone else’s idea of hell.

With a celebrant led wedding you can tell your love story and make your ceremony as personal as you like. Tell the story of how you meet, funny ways your partner makes you laugh, how you knew they were the one. By the end of your ceremony your guests should feel like they know you a bit better.

For a registrar led wedding the same text is used for every ceremony.

The Element of Surprise

Lets face it, most people who have been to a wedding know the usual drill as far as the ceremony goes.

“Do you take this person… blah blah…. For richer for poorer… blah blah” etc etc you get the point. The only interesting thing that potentially might happen is someone objecting to the marriage in a Dustin Hoffman graduate style & if you’ve been at wedding where this has happened - comment below… I need details!

So how about making this the best most memorable part? Expectations are low, use this to your advantage - I once saw a couple do shots mid-ceremony! Plant the rings under the guests seats or have an owl drop them overhead - go wild with your imagination.

Personal service

In the run up to your wedding you’ll get to meet your celebrant and form a bond with them. They’ll get to know you, you’ll get to know them. If you’re nervous waiting at the alter, having another friendly face there will help settle those nerves.

If you go with the registrar option you won’t know who you’re having until you meet them 5 minutes before your ceremony, also you’ll be lucky to get more than a paragraph about yourselves.

Your ceremony - your way!

I had a bride at my other business (Margaux Mae Bridal) tell me during an appointment to collect her dress, that she wants to get married outside for her summer wedding and the registrar gets to pick the day before if that happens. Not the venue, not the couple but the actual registrar!!

This is partly due to the weather but mostly they see how they feel on the day.

It genuinely shocked me, 1) because I’m pretty sure I know everything about weddings and I didn’t know this & 2) why do they get the power to do this?

Everyone is different and that blooming marvellous!

Below are some of my favourite celebrants who I’ve met via our wedding fayres. Every celebrant is different and unique in their own way so there will be the celebrant that is just right for you!
